How Science Became a Religion

Science is much more than one enterprise among many in our culture. Scientific knowledge is supposedly neutral, objective, and thus can be applied to everyone. All other knowledge is private, opinionated language. “Scientific knowledge” is the knowledge allowed in liberalism’s public discourse. It is no wonder then that the New Atheists and others make clear, science is often seen as a worldview to replace the Christian world that preceded it.

The goal of this course is to think more deeply about nature, to think more critically about modern science, and to develop a healthy view of the proper role and authority of science in a world beyond liberalism.
